Halime Sultan

Halime Sultan (fully ''Devletlu İsmetlu Halime Valide Sultan Aliyyetü'ş-Şân Hazretleri''; , 1576 – 1623;〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Turkey: The Imperial House of Osman )〕 meaning ''gentle, kind''), also known as Alime Sultan (; meaning "learned, cultured or wise") was the wife of Ottoman sultan Mehmed III and the mother of Mustafa I. She was de facto co-ruler as the Valide Sultan from 22 November 1617 to 26 February 1618 and again from 19 May 1622 to 10 September 1623.
== Early life ==
Halime Sultan was born in 1576 to an Abkhazian noble, Şoloh Bey, from the family of Akuç-Lakerba. Her personal name was Altunşah (meaning "Golden king"). She had a sister Feride, who was the mother of Mahfiruz Hatice Sultan, wife of Sultan Ahmed I and mother of Sultan Osman II. Halime married Mehmed III in 1589. During Mehmed's reign her stipend consisted of 100 aspers a day.〔 Grand viziers Melek Ahmed Pasha and Ibşir Mustafa Pasha, and the statesman Abaza Hasan Pasha were the relatives of her father.
